PORTALES, N.M. – A pair of tight games between Eastern New Mexico and Lubbock Christian went in favor of the Chaps for both games during a doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Greyhound SB Field. In the opening game, the Greyhounds had an improbable comeback to send the game to extra innings, but LCU won the game with seven runs in extra innings to win 17-10 (8 Inn.). During the second game, a four run 5
th inning lifted the Chaps past the Greyhounds, 4-3.
GAME ONE: LCU 17, ENMU 10 (8 Inn.)
The Greyhounds opened the game with a run in the 4
th inning, but the Chaps came back to score seven runs during the 2
nd and 3
rd inning to take a 7-1 lead. However, the Greyhounds mounted a comeback to tie the score over the next few innings.
Christina Meneses got things started with a two-run blast to centerfield in the 3
rd inning, cutting the score to 7-3 LCU.

Two innings later, Meneses struck again with another two-run home run, as ENMU trailed just 7-5. As the fifth inning continued,
Meilana Lopez drove in a run with a double to left center, then
Marissa Rodriguez followed with a single to shallow center field, tying the score at 7-7 after five innings. After an empty 6
th inning, the Chaps produced three runs in the top of the 7th inning, as ENMU trailed.

In the bottom of the inning,
Ramona Fossum reached base on a pinch hit single, then Rodriguez followed with a two-run blast to center. Now trailing 10-9,
Emily Marsh crushed the first pitch they saw over the center field fence to tie the game at 10-10. ENMU did load the bases with two outs, but LCU escaped the inning to send the game to extra innings. In the 8
th inning, LCU rattled off seven runs on eight hits, winning the game 17-10.

NOTABLE STATS
- The Chaps outhit the Greyhounds, 23-16, as the Greyhounds had six extra base hits. Seven of the nine starters recorded multiple hits, with Alondra Vasquez leading the way, going 3-3.
- Meneses tied a season best four RBIs, hitting two home runs in a single game for the first time in their career. Rodriguez hit their fourth home run of the season, tying a season high three RBIs.
- Four home runs from the Greyhounds tied a single game high this season, while ENMU as tied a season best 16 hits.
- Miranda Guillen started the game, allowing seven runs on eight hits over 1.1 innings. Rodriguez gets the loss in relief, giving up 14 hits and ten runs over 5.2 innings. Ciara Loken allowed one hit in one inning of work.
- Teoni Lamb began the game for LCU, while Kendall Ward had two innings of relief, and Reese Farrar won the game in relief (1.2 IP).
GAME TWO: LCU 4, ENMU 3
The Greyhounds struck early during the second game, with both
Aylene Lucero and
Valeria Contreras reaching base to start the inning. With both runners in scoring position, Vasquez split the gap in left center for a 2-RBI double in the first inning. Keeping the Chaps off the scoreboard in the 2
nd and 3
rd inning, ENMU brought home another run in the bottom of the third. With two outs, two singles and a walk loaded the bases, allowing Marsh to drive home a run with a single through the left side.

In the 5
th inning, the Chaps put together four hits to score four runs taking a 4-3 lead. LCU used an RBI double, two RBI-singles, and a sacrifice fly to take the lead against the Greyhounds. Both defenses prevented any scoring over the final five half innings, as LCU won the game, 4-3.
NOTABLE STATS
- LCU edged out the Greyhounds for hits, 9-8, with Marsh leading the Greyhounds with three hits in the game. Vasquez grabbed multiple hits, along with two RBIs.
- Marsh's three hits is a personal best in the batter's box, while Vasquez finished with multiple hits in consecutive games.
- Loken made their first career start in the circle, tossing 3.1 shutout innings. Cierra Smith takes the loss, allowing four runs over 0.2 innings. Jordan Rivera allowed just one hit over the final three innings.
- Natalee Gray started the game for LCU, going 3.1 innings, allowing three runs from seven hits. Reese Farrar shut down the Greyhounds offense, finishing with six strikeouts over 3.2 innings with one hit allowed.
- The Greyhounds honored its ten graduating seniors of the program after the second game: Ashley Burns, Contreras, Fossum, Chanler Groves, Lopez, Lucero, Grace Rofii, Maggie Smith, Xochitl Trejo, and Vasquez.
