SAN ANGELO, Texas – Eastern New Mexico Baseball (26-20, 24-20 LSC) fell in the series finale against #2 Angelo State (39-7, 37-7 LSC) in a tight game, 6-4, on Saturday afternoon at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium. Angelo State completed a series sweep of the Greyhounds.
Eastern provided 11 hits to the Rams seven, with Angelo State taking advantage of nine walks and three hit-by-pitches. Eight different Greyhounds recorded a base knock, led by three hits from
Beau Preston.
Luciano Terilli had a pair of base hits, including a solo home run.
Adrien Martin also had a solo home run during the game.
Cole Lancaster gets the loss, throwing one inning and allowing four runs on three hits and five walks.
Griffin Almond allowed one run in one inning of relief, while
Demitrius DiMatteo hurled five innings of relief with one run allowed.
Logan Kinter pitched one inning of relief, retiring the three batters they faced.
Angelo State started scoring early, with two singles, four walks, and a sacrifice fly scoring three runs in the opening inning. Eastern responded quickly with a solo home run from Martin to lead off the second inning. However, Angelo State pushed across a run in the 2
nd and 3
rd inning to hold a 5-1 advantage after three innings.
The Rams manufactured another run in the 6
th inning, scoring on a bases loaded 4-6-3 double play. Terilli took one deep in the next half inning, but the Greyhounds trailed 6-2 heading into the top of the 9
th. ENMU started to rally in the 9
th leading off the inning with a single and two walks to load the bases with no outs.
Demetrio Archuleta hit a sacrifice fly to score a run, then
Willie Ponce did the same two batters later. However, the Rams induced a fielder's choice to end the game 6-4.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- Terilli hit his third home run of the week and the 12th of the season for the senior. 12 home runs ties Terilli for the second most all-time in a single season, with Steve Marquez hitting 12 home runs twice in 1995 and 1996. During the 9th inning, Terilli drew a walk to set a single season record with 41 walks.
- Martin's home run was the second of the weekend for the sophomore, and the 5th of the season.
- DiMatteo tied a season long outing with five innings on the mound, while setting a new long for a relief appearance.
- Eastern New Mexico plays the final series of the regular season on next weekend, facing Texas A&M International at home for a four-game series. The series begins on Friday, April 26, at 6 p.m.
