PORTALES, N.M. – Taking an early lead in the game, Texas A&M International (17-32, 16-31 LSC) held off the Eastern New Mexico Baseball (26-23, 24-23 LSC), 7-5, on Saturday afternoon at Greyhound Baseball Field.
With the wind blowing in, Texas A&M International out-hit Eastern 12-10, with just two extra base hits between the two teams. A trio of Greyhounds grabbed multiple hits, with
Luciano Terilli,
Anthony Cortese, and
Daniel Pruitt finishing with two singles each.
Willie Ponce had the lone extra base hit for the Hounds, with a two-run triple.
Julian Lopez had a solid outing form the bullpen, tossing 4.1 shutout innings to keep the Greyhounds within touching distance.
Josaiah Estrella started the game and takes the loss, throwing two innings with two runs allowed.
Adrian Rubio finished with 2.2 innings pitched, giving up five runs (one earned) on six hits.
The Dustdevils scored a run in each of the first four innings, doing so by playing small ball. A groundout and two RBI singles scored three runs for TAMIU to lead in the middle of the third. Eastern responded with a pair of runs in the 3
rd inning, with back-to-back two-out singles keeping the inning going. Ponce pulled a ball down the right field line, scoring a pair to get ENMU on the board.
Both teams scored a run in the fourth inning, as
Demetrio Archuleta registered a sacrifice fly, but Texas A&M International led 4-3. In the next half inning, the Dustdevils pushed across three crucial runs to take a 7-4 lead. Eastern did their best to rally late, scoring a run in the 7
th and 9
th inning, but Texas A&M International escaped a 9
th inning jam to take the victory, 7-5, over the Hounds.

- During the game, Ponce reached base on a hit-by-pitch, setting a single-season record for hit-by-pitch with 20.
- Lopez tallied a season long 4.1 innings of relief during the game.
