LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico women's soccer match between New Mexico Highlands has been canceled due to excessive lightning in the Las Vegas area. The game was canceled in the second half (55:17), leaving the score 1-0 with Eastern in the lead.
The Greyhounds scored their goal by Mia Jackson in the first half with an assist from Faith Zint. Eastern had five saves in the first half made by goalkeeper Aja Gonzales. The Cowgirls did receive a yellow card at the start of the second half, but the Greyhounds could not convert the opportunity for another goal before lightning halted the game.
Eastern had a strong start and overall game looking to finish just as strong. Women's soccer will be back in action again for their next match against Fort Lewis on September 11 at 7 p.m. in Durango, Colo.
