No. 24 Greyhounds cruise to 11th straight win against Lobos

No. 24 Eastern New Mexico continues impressive start to season with 30-point win over Sul Ross State

ALPINE, Texas – No. 24 Eastern New Mexico continues to dominate with their 11th consecutive win. The Greyhounds went on the road and beat Sul Ross State, 96-66, to improve to 11-1 (4-0 LSC). They join DBU as the only teams in the conference with a perfect mark in league play.

"We came out swinging," said head coach Daven Võ when asked about Friday night's win. "We wanted to dictate everything. Our guys played hard tonight."

Eastern New Mexico started with a lengthy lineup with Jose Murillo and Mika Tangermann both earning spots in the starting five. ENMU controlled the game from the tip as they began on an 11-0 run and increased the lead to 26-2 over the opening nine minutes of the game.

Võ complimented guards Mo Austin and Cooper Jackson for getting everything going for the hot-handed Greyhounds.

"They played a big role," said Võ on Austin and Jackson. "They had plenty of open opportunities early, but got their teammates involved and helped us play as a team."

Austin continued his stellar sophomore campaign with an impressive 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting. The Pueblo, Colo. native was coming off the week where he earned LSC offensive player of the week honors and didn't slow down against the Lobos. He added six rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Austin came into the game leading the conference with 4.7 assists per contest.

Jackson was effective on both sides of the floor. The Lawrence, Kan. product posted a dozen points, five assists, four steals, and three rebounds. He improved his conference leading 3.1 steals per game average.

One of the most notable parts of tonight's game was the effort from the bench. In total, 11 players appeared for ENMU in the game and all 11 players scored in the effort. The six players off the bench combined for 40 points, including Elijah Hollins who scored 14 points for Eastern.

"He is playing harder," said Võ when reflecting on Hollins play compared to earlier in the season. "It's awesome to see him have success. He is going after loose balls and giving himself opportunities on offense."

The Hendersonville, Tenn. native made 5-of-7 shots from the field, including draining 2-of-3 from behind the arc. He was also one of four players with three or more steals on the night.

Sophomore Brandon Kehres also had an excellent outing in the win. The Las Cruces, N.M. native boasted nine points on 4-of-6 shooting. He grabbed five rebounds in the dominating win.

After two games shooting below 50%, ENMU was able to connect on 36-of-70 (51.4%) from the floor. They sunk eight three-point baskets, as well.

Defensively, Eastern forced Sul Ross State to commit 21 turnovers and the Hounds converted those into 26 points. The Lobos also gave up 16 second chance points to the program donning green and silver.

Austin Abrams led the team with seven of the program's 38 total rebounds. Abrams had a quieter night offensively but made his contributions in other factors on the court.

Murillo finished with 18 points, four rebounds, and two blocks.

Kobe Smith and Alex Alfaro did well off the bench for Eastern. Both Smith and Alfaro scored five points in the win. Despite not earning steals on the stat sheet, both players were crucial in forcing bad passes from the Lobos and helped the team fight for loose balls and much needed rebounds.

Eastern New Mexico will have a tough test coming up on Sunday afternoon as they travel to face in-state foe Western New Mexico. WNMU is coming off an upset win over top 25 West Texas A&M earlier this evening.
