ENMU extends win streak to three games in 40-point win over the Mustangs

SILVER CITY, N.M. - The Eastern New Mexico women's basketball team continued its dominant stretch with a commanding 98-58 victory over Western New Mexico on Sunday afternoon at Drag's Court. The Hounds improved to 9-4 overall and 5-0 in Lone Star Conference play, extending its winning streak to three games and capturing eight of its last nine contests.

Mekhila Brown led the offensive charge with a season-high 19 points, shooting an efficient 8-of-10 from the field while adding three rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench. Brown's performance highlighted a balanced scoring attack that saw five Hounds reach double figures for the second consecutive game.

Toyah Montgomery contributed 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting while adding four rebounds, three steals, and one block in 17 minutes. Montgomery's all-around effort helped Eastern control the tempo from start to finish.

Shay Moseberry added 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including one three-pointer, while grabbing three rebounds, four steals and dishing out three assists in 21 minutes. Nataya Lockett also scored 13 points off the bench, connecting on a perfect 6-of-6 from the field. Daci Smith connected on 3-of-5 from behind the arc to match a season-high of nine points. Smith also was credited with a pair of rebounds.

Julieta Ceja recorded her second consecutive double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds in 21 minutes. The junior forward also added two assists while shooting 4-of-7 from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. Ceja's double-double in consecutive games is the first since Deja Adrian recorded back-to-back double-doubles back in 2023.

Eastern's defensive pressure proved overwhelming for the Mustangs (0-12, 0-5 LSC), forcing 30 turnovers that translated into 41 points. The Hounds dominated the interior, outscoring Western New Mexico 60-18 in the paint while controlling the boards with a 48-29 rebounding advantage.

The bench provided a significant spark for Eastern, contributing 52 points compared to just 19 for the Mustangs.

Eastern established control early, taking a 22-14 lead after the first quarter and extending the advantage to 52-22 at halftime. The Hounds continued to pull away in the second half, outscoring Western New Mexico 46-36 over the final two quarters.

The Hounds shot 60.9 percent (42-of-69) from the field, including 45.0 percent (9-of-20) from three-point range, while holding the Mustangs to 35.8 percent (19-of-53) shooting.
