PORTALES, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico men's and women's cross country teams return to competition Saturday, Oct. 17, traveling to Fort Worth, Texas, for the Old Glory Gallop hosted by Dallas Baptist University at AP Ranch. The meet will serve as the Greyhounds' final regular-season competition before the Lone Star Conference Championships in November.
Saturday's competition will feature an 8-kilometer men's race beginning at 8:15 a.m. (CT), followed by the women's 5-kilometer race at 9:15 a.m. (CT). The meet provides Eastern with another opportunity to compete against a strong field of collegiate runners as the program prepares for postseason competition.
The Greyhounds last competed on Sept. 26 at the Oklahoma State Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla., where both squads faced competitive fields featuring programs from across the country.
On the women's side,
Chama El Hadiri led Eastern with a 68th-place finish in the 6K race, clocking a time of 22:20.0.
Elsa Tagesson followed in 154th place at 25:53.5, while
Maya Garcia Schafer recorded a time of 26:47.6 to finish 160th.
Joella Mathilda also contributed with a 162nd-place finish, crossing the line in 27:19.2.
For the men,
Isaac Lacey paced the Greyhounds in the 8K race, placing 148th with a time of 27:06.3.
Rodrigo Pinales finished just behind Lacey in 154th place with a time of 27:29.5, while
Mason Taylor rounded out Eastern's top three finishers, placing 160th in 27:37.1.
Erardo Gonzalez and
Eloy Serrano Borrego also contributed to the Greyhound effort, finishing in 29:07.2 and 29:16.8, respectively.
Eastern will also look to build on its experience at last season's Old Glory Gallop, where the Greyhound women finished 18th and the men placed 29th. El Hadiri delivered one of Eastern's standout performances, finishing 26th overall with a 5K time of 18:23.0. The returning sophomore earned Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year honors in 2025 and will look to continue her success at the familiar venue.
Following Saturday's meet, the Greyhounds will shift their focus to the 2026 Lone Star Conference Cross Country Championships, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Lubbock Christian University Cross Country Course in Lubbock, Texas. The NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championships will follow on Nov. 21 at the same venue.
