Javelinas spoil series finale for Greyhounds

Eastern New Mexico drops run-rule decided matchup to visitors from Texas A&M-Kingsville

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico baseball fell to Texas A&M-Kingsville to close out the three-game series, 18-3 (8 inn.) The run-rule win by the Javelinas was credited with 13 hits, eight walks, and three hit batters.

"You gotta hand it to Kingsville," said head coach Riley Price after the game. "Every arm that they brough in really challenged the zone and did not give us opportunities offensively."

Five different Javelina pitchers threw in the matchup and combined for nine strikeouts.

Eastern New Mexico struggled to hit with runners on and left 12 men on base. ENMU still hit well with nine hits but only managed to get three runs across the plate.

The top of the lineup proved to be the best part of Eastern's gave. The leadoff hitter Logan Martin had three singles over five at-bats and the two-hole hitter Cole Curtis got on base four times with two singles, a double, and a walk. Curtis' double was the only multibase hit for the Greyhounds this afternoon.

The other seven slots in the lineup only produced three hits over 23 at-bats. Execution from the Greyhounds was not on display offensively.

Gabriel Watson started the game for ENMU at designated hitter despite lacking a start over the previous two contests. He now has posted a single in two-straight contests. Martin, Curtis, and Watson all had a run in today's game.

Nick Mooney was credited with the loss after going 2.2 innings and giving up seven runs on seven hits. Micah Early did well in relief but could not hang for long as he lasted four innings once issues on the rubber began to partake. Logan Kinter allowed six runs and two triples over a single inning of work. Kaden Widacki was credited with the final out of the game, but the Javelinas tacked on an insurance run while he was on the mound.

Eastern New Mexico will now turn their focus for another three-game series against St. Edward's set for Feb. 6 thru Feb. 8. More information can be found on www.goeasternathletics.com
