Softball tripped up by No. 14 Oklahoma Christian

ENMU moves to 6-7 overall and 2-4 in league action

PORTALES, N.M. - Eastern New Mexico softball dropped a Lone Star Conference doubleheader to No. 14 Oklahoma Christian on Saturday afternoon at Greyhound Softball Field, falling 11-3 in game one and 4-1 in game two.
 
The Greyhounds fall to 6-7 overall and 2-4 in LSC play, while the Eagles improve to 13-3 overall and 5-1 in conference action.
 

Game 1: ENMU 3, No. 14 Oklahoma Christian 11

 
Jordan Rivera provided the offensive spark for the Greyhounds in the opener, launching a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Natalie Rodarte went 1-for-2 with a walk, while Christina Meneses added a solo home run in the sixth inning to account for ENMU's three runs. Samantha Parisi and Giazza Lopez each contributed a hit in the losing effort.
 
For Oklahoma Christian, Ally McDougal paced the Eagles' attack with a 3-for-4 performance that included three RBIs and two runs scored.
 
The Greyhounds collected five hits as a team but were hampered by four errors and six walks allowed. Oklahoma Christian tallied 10 hits and capitalized on key opportunities, scoring one run in the second, one in the third, one in the fourth, six in the fifth and two in the sixth.
 
Jordan Rivera started in the circle for Eastern and pitched 4.1 innings, allowing seven hits and eight runs (seven earned) while striking out one and walking four. Cierra Smith worked 1.2 innings in relief, surrendering three hits and three runs (three earned) with two strikeouts and two walks.
 

Game 2: ENMU 1, No. 14 Oklahoma Christian 4

 
Miranda Guillen turned in her second straight complete game of the season for the Greyhounds in the nightcap, working all seven innings and allowing eight hits and four runs (four earned) while striking out three.
 
Despite the strong effort, ENMU managed just six hits and one run against Oklahoma Christian's Ella Resendiz, who also went the distance with nine strikeouts.
 
Emily Marsh provided the offensive highlight for Eastern, going 2-for-3. Rodarte added a double while Lopez and Marissa Rodriguez each collected a hit for the Greyhounds.
 
Oklahoma Christian's Maci George led the Eagles with a 2-for-3 performance including a run scored. Ally McDougal collected two hits, while Kadence Brewster drove in a run and scored once.
 
The Eagles struck first with a run in the third inning and added another in the sixth before tacking on two insurance runs in the seventh. ENMU's lone run came in the fifth inning but couldn't generate additional offense against Resendiz.
 
The Greyhounds committed just one error in the contest, while Oklahoma Christian played error-free defense.
 
Eastern New Mexico will head to UT Dallas next week for a doubleheader scheduled for Feb. 27 at 3 p.m. CT in Richardson, Texas.
