ENMU men's basketball claims most conference wins in program history

No. 12 Eastern New Mexico beats UT Permian Basin by 26 points at home

PORTALES, N.M. – All 13 Eastern New Mexico men's basketball players scored in an exciting 101-75 win over UT Permian Basin Thursday night.

"Love the intensity our guys played with," said head coach Daven Võ after the win. "We brought it defensively and it propelled us to get transition points."

Those transition points were a nice addition to a season-best 101 points scored by ENMU. Eastern put up 19 fastbreak points, which matches their average on the year. Going into tonight's game, the Hounds led the Lone Star Conference in transition points.

One area where Eastern New Mexico typically does not dominate is bench points. Tonight, they scored 49 points off the bench, including two Greyhounds in double figures. Elijah Hollins had a nice outing going 5-of-12 from the floor for 12 points. Kobe Smith scored 10+ points for the first time as a Greyhound. Smith connected on 4-of-7 shots for 11 points.

No starter for Eastern played more than 26 minutes. Instead, the minutes were well distributed throughout the team.

Coming into the game, all five ENMU starters were averaging double figure scoring marks. Three of those starters finished with 10+ points. Cooper Jackson led Eastern with 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Austin Abrams contributed 13 points on a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor. Lastly, Jose Murillo had his 24th double digit scoring effort this season with 10 points on 3-of-7 shooting.

Eastern shared the rock well tonight. Austin Abrams and Mo Austin combined for nine of the team's 19 assists. Despite not holding much offensive weight with two points, Austin was all over the place on the box score as he posted seven rebounds, five steals, and four assists.

ENMU continues to be one of the top 10 shooting teams in the nation. They made 39-of-66 (59.1%) from the floor against the Falcons.

It was turnover city for UT Permian Basin. The Falcons committed 20 total turnovers, including six credited to guard Sharrod Taylor. The Greyhounds scored 37 points off takeaways and only 7 points went to UTPB in that fashion.

An 11-0 run midway through the first half and a 7-0 stretch directly before half allowed Eastern New Mexico to take a commanding, 53-32, lead.

ENMU remains one of the best teams at playing down low. Eastern scored 58 points in the paint against UT Permian Basin.

Eastern New Mexico improves to 23-4 (16-3 LSC) and UT Permian Basin goes to 10-17 (6-13 LSC). Senior day festivities for the men's program are set to take place during the women's halftime period.
