Aaliyah Smith poured in a game-high 19 points and
Chloe Dallas recorded her sixth double-double of the season as Eastern New Mexico closed out the regular season with a 64-50 victory over Angelo State on Saturday afternoon at the Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena.
Smith led the Greyhounds attack, connecting on 6-of-13 shots from the field, including three 3-pointers, while adding two assists and two steals. The performance helped Eastern New Mexico finish the regular season 19-9 overall and 15-5 in Lone Star Conference play.
Dallas dominated the paint with a 16-point, 15-rebound double-double, shooting an efficient 6-of-10 from the field. The double-double marked her sixth of the season as she controlled the glass throughout the contest.
Martrice Brooks and
Toyah Montgomery provided crucial contributions on the boards for the Greyhounds. Brooks pulled down11 rebounds to go with six points, while Montgomery grabbed 10 rebounds and added two points.
Julieta Ceja added seven points and four rebounds for Eastern New Mexico, while
Mekhila Brown contributed eight points off the bench.
Hannah Jensen chipped in five points in the winning effort.
For Angelo State, Majik Esquivel led the way with 15 points on 6-of-16 shooting, including two 3-pointers. Taylor Grona added 10 points and six rebounds, while Tristin Keller scored eight points. Landry Morrow contributed nine points for the Rambelles.
The Greyhounds shot 40.4 percent (23-of-57) from the field and held Angelo State to 24.6 percent (16-of-65) shooting. Eastern also dominated the rebounding battle, finishing with a 53-37 advantage on the glass.
The victory secured the fifth seed for Eastern New Mexico in LSC tournament. The Greyhounds will face fourth-seeded Lubbock Christian on March 6 at 8:30 p.m. CT in Frisco, Texas.
