PORTALES, N.M. – No. 11 Eastern New Mexico men's basketball is leaving the Sooner state with a win over Cameron, 87-73. The win improves Eastern's record to 19-3 (12-2 LSC).
"They (Cameron) threw some different things at us and scored well in spurts," said head coach Daven Võ after the game. "We handled it and the good thing about this team is that they stick together through adversity."
ENMU scored the first two baskets of the game and never trailed against the Aggies. The Greyhounds grabbed a double-digit lead less than five minutes into the game and kept the score near that margin for most of the game.
Eastern New Mexico was tough to stop offensively. The Hounds made 35-of-60 (58%) of their shots and won the battle in the paint, 52-20. Eastern also responded with 17 second chance points compared to just two for the Aggies.
Austin Abrams led the Greyhounds with 16 total points. The junior guard has scored 10+ points in 10-straight games. In that stretch, he has bettered his points per game average from 10.9 to 12.6. The Maryland native went 6-for-10 from the floor, including a 2-for-3 mark from three-point distance. He also led Eastern with three of their seven total steals.
Sophomore
Mo Austin had 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting against the Aggies. He also added seven rebounds and three assists. It marks two consecutive games with seven rebounds for the 5-10 guard. Austin's season assist total now goes to 89, which is six better than his mark from the 2024-25 season.
Jose Murillo continues to be the primary target for opponents. He consistently was double and triple teamed throughout the game. Instead, Murillo stayed patient and finished with 12 points on 5-of-6 from the floor. The defensive pressure worked for Cameron at times as they forced the senior forward to commit a season-high five turnovers.
Off the bench,
Zaylan Chaney had a season-high 12 points while going 5-for-7 from the field. Chaney played 14 minutes and also posted three rebounds, a block, and an assist. Prior to this weekend, his season-high for ENMU was just five points in a home contest against St. Mary's. In back-to-back games in the Sooner state he bested that mark by scoring eight points Thursday in Edmond and 12 points today.
Treyvon Byrd nearly had a double-double as he posted 11 points and nine rebounds in the win. Seven of his rebounds came on the defensive end. Byrd added two assists and two steals to his credit.
Eastern's win puts them at a perfect 10-0 mark in true road games. That ties for the second most road wins in a single season for Eastern New Mexico. They will have a chance to get an 11th as they head to Canyon for a matchup with West Texas A&M on Tuesday evening. More information can be found on www.goeasternathletics.com
