Greyhounds split final day of UCO/OC Softball Festival against Fort Lewis and Oklahoma Baptist

Greyhounds defeated Fort Lewis 12-3 before falling to Oklahoma Baptist, 13-8

EDMOND, Okla. - Eastern New Mexico softball closed out the OC/UCO Softball Festival with a win and a loss on Sunday afternoon. ENMU started the day with a 12-3 victory over Fort Lewis College and ended the day falling to Oklahoma Baptist, 13-8.

GAME 1: ENMU 12 – FLC 3
Miranda Guillen started in the circle for the Greyhounds today and pitched for 2.1 innings, earning three strikeouts and allowing five hits and three runs. Angelina Rubalcava pitched in relief for Guillen in the final 2.2 innings and recorded five strikeouts and allowed zero hits and zero runs, securing the win for the Hounds.

The Hounds played a great first game, run-ruling the Skyhawks and finishing the game in five innings. Eastern scored eight runs in the third inning alone. Talia Martin led the team with three RBIs and Samantha Parisi with three runs.

Head coach Amanda Fefel commented, "Angie did a phenomenal job coming in relief for Miranda and closing out the game. I was proud of how the offense answered back after the three runs they put on the board to put the game out of reach. Hitting was contagious and allowed us to pull out the win."

GAME 2: ENMU 8 – OBU 13
Angelina Rubalcava started the second game of the day against the Bisons, recording four strikeouts and allowing two hits and four runs after pitching in relief against Fort Lewis. Cierra Smith pitched 0.2 of an inning in which she recorded one strikeout with three hits and five runs. Marissa Rodriguez came into pitch relief for Smith for 1.2 innings, earning one strikeout, allowing five hits, and three runs. Finally, Giazza Lopez finished out the remaining 1.2 innings with two strikeouts and only two hits and one run.

The Hounds had a great fifth inning keeping the Bisons from scoring any runs and scoring five themselves. Christina Meneses hit a home run earning two RBIs. Jordan Rivera came into pinch hit, scoring a home run and allowing Aubrey Jaramillo to score as well, also earning two RBIs.

"Defensively we struggled handling the ball in the infield, you can't give an offense multiple outs in an inning, eventually they will capitalize on our mistakes and that's exactly what happened" Fefel continued. "I am proud of how we answered back and strung multiple hits to narrow a 9-1 deficit to go the full seven."

The Hounds will play their home opener this weekend on Saturday February 14, against West Texas A&M at 1 p.m. at the Greyhounds Softball Field in Portales.
