Baseball splits series with Cameron, 8-7

Eastern New Mexico baseball ties road series with Aggies

LAWTON, Okla. – Eastern New Mexico baseball came from behind to earn an 8-7 win over Cameron to close out the four-game series with the Aggies.

"Pretty nice to walk away with a win," said head coach Riley Price after the game. "Pitching was a big plus this week. It all came down to the mistakes they made and how we reacted."

Cameron scored two runs in the fourth inning and held onto that lead until the sixth inning.

The Greyhounds did not have an attitude of giving up. Instead, they battled and capitalized with a huge sixth inning. The scoring barrage began with a two-RBI single by Logan Martin, which scored Isaiah Figueroa and Adrien Martin. Later on in the frame, Salmon Lluveres hit a three-run bomb over the left field fence to give ENMU a 5-2 lead.

CU ended up scoring one run in the sixth, but Eastern continued their response in the seventh with Eiji Sawamura using his speed and scoring off a wild pitch.

The Aggies had a remarkable push in the seventh inning as they tied up the game at 6-6.

Alex Sanderson had just come in relief for ENMU on the mound. He gave up three consecutive singles giving up one run in the process. On the following at-bat, the Aggies advanced both runners into scoring position on a sac-bunt. From there, CU capitalized on a ground out that scored the runner on third and a passed ball knotting the game at six runs each side.

The response for Eastern was to score two runs in the eighth inning and earn an 8-6 lead. They did so on a wild pitch allowing Logan Martin to reach home safely. They got the insurance run off a single from Gunner Ferguson who aided Ryan Weaver to extend the score.

CU would only get a solo homer in the eighth and that closed out the rest of the scoring for both sides.
