Greyhound baseball falls in series finale to UTPB

Eastern New Mexico baseball drops game, 7-5

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico baseball lost the final game of the series against UT Permian Basin, 7-5.

UTPB scored the game's first six runs with two coming in the first and the Falcons added four more in the fourth frame.

Eastern New Mexico did not score their first run of the day until the bottom of the fourth. The run came on a sacrifice fly from Jake Willerup. Adrien Martin scored on the play.

UTPB added one insurance run in the fifth inning thanks to an RBI-single from Demetrius Deramus.

ENMU had an excellent bottom of the fifth offensively. Logan Martin began the frame with a double down the left field line. Martin advanced to third after a Gaston Galvan ground out. Eiji Sawamura drove in a run with an RBI-single. Sawamura would advance to the other corner bag (third) on a single to right center from Adrien Martin. Cole Curtis' sacrifice fly helped move Sawamura to home. Gabriel Watson cleared the bases with a two-out homerun and put the deficit at 7-5.

Nick Mooney got the start for Eastern New Mexico as he posted 3.2 innings of work. He allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits and three walks. He struck out three batters. Maddox Edmonson allowed three runs in just 0.2 innings. Alexander Sanderson closed out the contest going 4.2 innings allowing just five hits in the outing.

Eastern New Mexico is set to face nationally ranked UT Tyler this upcoming Friday thru Sunday in Tyler, Texas.
