Lawton, Okla. – Eastern New Mexico softball dropped a pair of Lone Star Conference games on the road to Cameron on Saturday, falling 7-6 in game one and 7-2 in game two.
The Greyhounds are now 15-22 on the season and 11-19 in conference play. Cameron moves to 24-21 overall and 16-16 in league action.
Game 1: Cameron 7, ENMU 6
Christina Meneses led the Greyhounds' offensive effort in the opener, finishing with two hits and two RBI.
Emily Marsh added a hit and drove in two runs, while
Giazza Lopez contributed a hit and an RBI.
The Hounds struck first in the opening frame when Meneses smacked a 2-run homerun to deep left field, giving ENMU an early 2-0 lead. Cameron answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning to cut the deficit to 2-1.
ENMU extended its lead to 3-1 in the top of the third inning when Lopez scored
Samantha Parisi on a fielding error by Aggies second baseman Brynn Webber. However, Cameron responded immediately, tying the game in the bottom half of the frame with a 2-run homerun. The Aggies then took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth, 4-3.
The Greyhounds battled back to tie the game once again at 4-4 in the top of the fifth when Marsh reached on a fielder's choice and scored Parisi, who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning.
Cameron seized control with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 7-4 lead heading into the final frame.
In their final at-bat, the Greyhounds mounted a rally.
Natalie Rodarte reached on a walk, followed by a Meneses single that advanced Rodarte to third. Lopez scored Rodarte on a sacrifice fly to left field, and Marsh doubled to deep center field to score Meneses from second, cutting the deficit to 7-6. The Aggies held on for the one-run victory.
In the circle,
Miranda Guillen earned the start, going 2.1 innings of work. Guillen gave up three runs off three hits and walked five batters.
Marissa Rodriguez pitched in relief, surrendering four runs off five hits with one strikeout. Rodriguez falls to 7-2 on the season.
Game 2: Cameron 7, ENMU 2
The Aggies jumped on the Greyhounds early in the nightcap, putting up seven runs off three ENMU errors in the opening frame.
Eastern put up a run in the fourth inning and another in the fifth but couldn't overcome the early deficit as Cameron held on for the 7-2 victory.
Parisi, Meneses, Lopez,
Cierra Smith and
Kayla Campbell each recorded a hit for the Greyhounds.
Angelina Rubalcava earned the start for game two, giving up five runs off one hit while walking two batters. Rubalcava drops to 2-6 on the season. Lopez pitched 5.1 innings of relief, surrendering just two hits and three walks. Smith recorded the final out for the Hounds, allowing two runs off two walks.
