PORTALES, N.M. - Eastern New Mexico athletics will host a reunion for the 1991 Lone Star Conference Football Championship team on Sept. 26 at the Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium in Portales.
Â
The celebration will take place during the Greyhounds' second home game of the season, marking a special occasion in head coach
Art Briles' inaugural season at ENMU. The Hounds will face UT Permian Basin, a team that advanced to the national tournament last season.
Â
"It is always an honor to welcome back members of a championship team! As we strive to bring Greyhound football back to its winning tradition, we want our current student-athletes to be aware of the accomplishments of our previous champions and see us celebrate their achievements," director of athletics
Kevin Fite commented.
Â
The reunion coincides with Family Weekend at Eastern, creating a multi-generational celebration of Greyhound football tradition. The 1991 championship team's return to Portales will provide an opportunity for former players, current student-athletes, families and fans to connect and celebrate the program's rich history.
Â
"This squad was the first ENMU football team to win a Lone Star Conference championship, beating teams such as Angelo State, Abilene Christian, East Texas State and Central Oklahoma," Fite continued. "The roster was also full of many players that actively support Greyhound athletics today, creating a legacy of supporting our athletics department beyond their playing days!"
Â
All members of the 1991 championship team are encouraged to complete the reunion questionnaire above so ENMU athletics can connect with them as the event approaches. The questionnaire will help organizers coordinate reunion activities and ensure all team members receive event information.
