Serving It Up: Volleyball kicks off the 2026 season at the 2026 Tiger Classic

The Greyhounds face Hastings (Neb.) to begin the season on the road

Portales, N.M. - The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team will kick off its season at the 2026 Tiger Classic hosted by Fort Hays State. In this tournament, the Greyhounds will face four opponents, Hastings (Neb.), Regis, Truman State, and Fort Hays State. All games will be held in Hays, Kansas at the Gross Memorial Stadium. 



 

Eastern comes into the 2026 season following a 5-24 record in 2025. ENMU landed the 17th place in the 2026 Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll with Sophia Valdez (offensive), Amya Speller (defensive), and Peyton Priddy (setter) being named to the players to watch list. The new roster consists of 10 newcomers and six returners. 

The Greyhounds first match up is against the Hastings broncos. This game will take place on Thursday, August 27th at 3 p.m. (MDT). The Broncos finished the 2025 season with an overall record of 6-20 and 3-13 in conference play. Offensively, Makenna Sutter returns after leading the team with 268 total kills. This will be the first time in history the Greyhounds and the Broncos will face each other. 

Their next match will be against the Regis Rangers and will take place on Friday, August 28th at 8:30 a.m. (MDT). Between the Greyhounds and Rangers, the Rangers lead with a 9-1 record. Krissy Brei returns to the team as a defensive specialist after leading the 2025 season with 298 digs. The last match up between the two teams was on September 2nd, 2017, where the Greyhounds lost in 3 sets. 

Later that day, the Greyhounds will play their third match of the invite, where they will face off against the Truman State Bulldogs. This game takes place on Friday, August 28th at 4 p.m. (MDT). The Bulldogs come into the season after recording a 12-17 overall record and 7-6 record in conference play, in the 2025 season. The Hounds current record against the Bulldogs is 0 and 5, and the last match up took place on August 29th, 2009, where the Hounds lost in 4 sets. 

The Greyhounds will face the Fort Hays State Tigers for its final game of the invite at the Tiger's home arena. This game will take place on Saturday, August 29th at 11 a.m. (MDT). Fort Hays finished its 2025 season with a 16-13 overall record and 5-11 conference record. Ashlyn Reeves returns to the Tigers as a senior middle blocker who led the team with 101.0 blocks in the previous season. The Hounds current record against the Tigers is 4 and 3. The last match up took place on October 1st, 2010, where the Greyhounds lost in 4 sets.
