PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico University football hits the road Saturday, Sept. 19, as the Greyhounds travel to Kingsville, Texas, to take on Texas A&M University-Kingsville in the Lone Star Conference opener for both programs. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. MT.
Eastern New Mexico (0-2) enters the matchup looking for its first victory under first-year head coach Art Briles after opening the season with losses to New Mexico Highlands and Colorado Mesa. Texas A&M-Kingsville also enters the contest at 0-2 under second-year head coach Scott Parr.
Despite the winless start, the Greyhound offense has shown plenty of production through its first two games. ENMU ranks third in the LSC in total offense at 480.5 yards per game and fifth in scoring at 28.5 points per contest. Eastern has accumulated 574 passing yards and 387 rushing yards, ranking third in the conference in both categories.
The passing attack took a major step forward against Colorado Mesa. Eastern threw for 366 yards, its highest single-game total since recording 437 against Texas A&M-Commerce in 2010. The Hounds finished with 533 yards of total offense, outgaining the Mavericks by 121 yards despite the 42-23 defeat.
Quarterbacks Jake South and Cooper Clifton have split the production through the air, with South leading the team with 254 passing yards and Clifton close behind at 241. Emeka Megwa leads the ground attack with 104 rushing yards, followed by Jose Trevino with 80. Trei Kibbles has emerged as Eastern's leading receiver with 147 yards, while Darwin Parker has added 124.
Trevino has also established himself as one of ENMU's biggest scoring threats. His three touchdowns are tied for third in the LSC, while Kibbles ranks seventh in the conference in receiving yards and Megwa sits 10th in rushing.

Several Greyhounds posted breakout performances against Colorado Mesa. Cooper completed 8-of-15 passes for 196 yards and a touchdown, while South added 106 yards and a score through the air. Kibbles hauled in four passes for 118 yards and a touchdown, Demitrius Alexandre finished with 89 receiving yards and Parker added five catches for 60 yards and a score.
On the defensive side, linebacker Matthew Quartieri recorded 10 tackles against the Mavericks for his first double-digit tackle performance of the season. He enters the weekend ranked third in the LSC with 18 total tackles. Defensive back Caleb Jefferson has made an early impact in the secondary with two interceptions and two pass breakups, tying him for second in the conference in pass defense. Logan Howell and Malachi Hannah have each contributed a sack.

History With the Javelinas
Saturday marks the 41st meeting between the Greyhounds and Javelinas, with Texas A&M-Kingsville holding a 29-11 advantage in the all-time series. The Javelinas have won each of the last five meetings, while Eastern's most recent victory in Kingsville came in 2018 when the Hounds earned a 31-14 win.
The two programs last met in the 2025 season finale in Portales, where TAMUK earned a 45-28 victory. Eastern found success on the ground in that matchup, outrushing Kingsville 337-130, but never held the lead after the game was tied 7-7 in the opening quarter.
Former Greyhound Dearion Finch rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown in the contest, while Gerry Gomez finished with two receptions for 86 yards and a score. Defensively, Matthew Quartieri totaled 14 tackles and an interception, while Dylan Quartieri added 13 tackles. Kingsville quarterback Jack Turner threw for 363 yards and two touchdowns.

Scouting Texas A&M-Kingsville
Texas A&M-Kingsville was picked to finish sixth in the LSC preseason poll but has opened the season with back-to-back losses. The Javelinas fell 48-3 against No. 8 Northwest Missouri State before dropping a 41-24 contest to Saginaw Valley State. The 0-2 start is TAMUK's first since 2007.
Kingsville enters Saturday averaging 13.5 points per game, ranking second-to-last in the LSC. The Javelinas have averaged 227 passing yards and 94.5 rushing yards per contest through their first two games.
Saturday's matchup gives both teams an opportunity to reset as Lone Star Conference play begins. Eastern will look to translate an offense averaging nearly 500 yards per game into its first victory of 2026 while also trying to snap TAMUK's five-game winning streak in the series.
