PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico University football returns to Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium this weekend, welcoming UT Permian Basin for a Lone Star Conference matchup. The Greyhounds enter the contest 0-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play, while the Falcons come to Portales at 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the LSC.
Eastern returns home after falling to Texas A&M-Kingsville in its conference opener. The Greyhounds finished the contest with 389 yards of offense, including 245 yards on the ground and 144 through the air.
Jose Trevino highlighted the offense with five receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown, while
Trei Kibbles hauled in a 44-yard touchdown reception. Defensively,
Matthew Quartieri led the way with nine tackles and a pass breakup.
HISTORY WITH THE FALCONS
Saturday marks the 10th meeting between Eastern New Mexico and UT Permian Basin, with the Falcons holding a 6-3 advantage in the all-time series. UTPB has won six straight meetings, while Eastern's most recent victory came at home in 2018, when the Greyhounds defeated the Falcons 24-7. ENMU won the first-ever meeting between the programs, 34-3, in 2016.
The two teams last met on Nov. 8, 2025, when No. 17 UTPB earned a 47-34 victory. Despite trailing 40-7 at halftime, Eastern responded in the second half and finished a perfect 5-for-5 in the red zone.
Robert Nora rushed for 165 yards on 11 carries and added a receiving touchdown, while
Gerry Gomez finished with 143 receiving yards on four catches. ENMU totaled 408 yards of offense, including 231 on the ground.
GREYHOUND OFFENSE
Eastern enters the weekend averaging 450 yards of offense per game, third-best in the LSC, while its 26.3 points per game ranks seventh. The Hounds have already thrown for 718 yards through three games after totaling 1,117 passing yards during the entire 2025 season. ENMU has also accumulated 632 yards on the ground, ranking third in the conference.
Trevino has emerged as one of Eastern's top scoring threats, finding the end zone in each of the first three games and entering the weekend tied for fourth in the LSC with four touchdowns. Kibbles leads the receiving corps with 191 yards, while
Darwin Parker follows with 133. At quarterback,
Clifton Cooper leads the Hounds with 304 passing yards, followed closely by
Jake South with 287.
SCOUTING UTPB
UT Permian Basin enters the matchup riding back-to-back conference victories after opening the season with a loss to UT Rio Grande Valley. The Falcons responded with a 69-14 victory over Western New Mexico before defeating Sul Ross State 66-7 on the road.
The Falcons are averaging 162.3 rushing yards and 209 passing yards per game. Their defense has surrendered just seven touchdowns through its first three contests, the fewest in the LSC. UTPB was picked fifth in the conference's preseason poll and received votes in this week's AFCA Top 25 Poll.
DEFENSIVE PLAYMAKERS
Quartieri continues to pace the Greyhound defense with 27 tackles, tying him for third in the LSC entering the weekend.
Caleb Jefferson has made an impact in the secondary with two interceptions and two pass breakups, while
Logan Howell,
Malachi Hannah and
Xander Holt have each recorded a sack.
Eastern will look to defend its home field and pick up its first victory of the 2026 season this Saturday at 2 p.m. ENMU Athletics will also be hosting the 1991 Lone Star Conference Championship football team reunion this weekend, where the former players and coaches will be honored during the first quarter of Saturday's game.
