PORTALES, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team fell to Dallas Baptist, 7-0, Thursday afternoon at Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium. The Greyhounds moved to 1-6-1 overall and 0-4-0 in Lone Star Conference play, while DBU improved to 9-0-0 overall and 6-0-0 in conference action.
Dallas Baptist opened the scoring in the 12th minute as Ashley Washburn found the back of the net off an assist from Sydney Hopper. Emma Croley added a second goal in the 16th minute before McKenna Vela converted a penalty kick at 22:08 to give the Patriots a 3-0 advantage at the half.
Eastern generated its first opportunity in the 17th minute when
Megan Mukiibi put a shot on target that was saved by DBU goalkeeper Josie Juvera. The Greyhounds nearly broke through again in the 32nd minute when
Lilliana Duncan's attempt struck the crossbar.
The Patriots added four goals in the second half. Washburn scored just 1:48 after the break and completed her hat trick in the 66th minute. Riley Olsen followed with a goal at 66:32 before Chandler Wheat closed the scoring in the 87th minute.
Aja Gonzales played all 90 minutes in goal for the Greyhounds, finishing with 10 saves. DBU finished with 25 shots, placing 18 on goal, while Eastern recorded three shots with two on target. Mukiibi and
Addison Garver each registered a shot on goal, with Duncan accounting for the Greyhounds' other attempt. DBU also held a 13-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The Greyhounds will now turn their attention to their next ranked matchup against #14 Texas Woman's University on Wednesday, September 30
th at 6 p.m, and then heading to Lubbock to face Lubbock Christian on Saturday, October 3
rd at 11 a.m.
