Greyhounds Unable to Slow Falcons in Home Loss

Jake South had 229 yards in the air on 17-27 despite the loss.

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico football fell to UT Permian Basin, 56-10, Saturday afternoon at Al Whitehead Field at Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium. The loss moved the Greyhounds to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play. As part of the afternoon's festivities, ENMU Athletics welcomed back and honored members of the 1991 Lone Star Conference Championship team in recognition of their historic and championship season.

Eastern opened the scoring with a 32-yard field goal from Kaden Dow, capping a 19-play, 65-yard drive that took more than seven minutes off the clock. UTPB responded with a pair of touchdowns to take a 14-3 advantage after the opening quarter.

The Falcons extended their lead to 28-3 in the second quarter before the Greyhounds put together a quick scoring drive just before halftime. Jake South guided ENMU 75 yards in just 43 seconds, connecting with Trei Kibbles for a six-yard touchdown with 11 seconds remaining to make it 28-10 at the break. UTPB scored 28 unanswered points in the second half to close out the game.

South finished 17-of-27 passing for 229 yards and a touchdown, while Kibbles led the receiving corps with 61 yards and a score on three catches. Darwin Parker added five receptions for 45 yards, while Jose Trevino led ENMU on the ground with 36 yards.

Defensively, Matthew Quartieri led the Greyhounds with 11 tackles, while Jarrion Patton recorded an interception. ENMU finished with two sacks and held UTPB scoreless on its opening possession before the Falcons finished with 580 yards of total offense.

Eastern New Mexico will hit the road for its next two contests, beginning Saturday, Oct. 3, when the Greyhounds travel to Alpine, Texas, to take on Sul Ross State. ENMU will then head to Silver City for a matchup with Western New Mexico on Oct. 10 before returning home for the annual Wagon Wheel game against West Texas A&M on Oct. 17.
