PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico University football hits the road this weekend as the Greyhounds travel to Alpine, Texas, for a Lone Star Conference matchup with Sul Ross State at Jackson Field. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. MT.
Eastern enters the contest looking to bounce back following a 56-10 loss to UT Permian Basin. QB
Jake South turned in his best passing performance of the season against the Falcons, completing 17-of-27 passes for 229 yards and a touchdown.
Trei Kibbles hauled in three passes for 61 yards and a score, while
Matthew Quartieri led the defense with 11 total tackles.
Jarrion Patton added an interception and two pass breakups.
The Greyhounds have shown balance offensively through the opening four games, averaging 413.8 yards per contest. Eastern has already thrown for 956 yards this season after totaling 1,117 passing yards throughout the entire 2025 campaign. South leads ENMU with 516 passing yards, while
Emeka Megwa has a team-best 160 yards on the ground. Kibbles leads the receiving corps with 252 yards, followed by
Darwin Parker with 178.
Defensively, Quartieri continues to lead the way for the Hounds. The linebacker has recorded 38 tackles, tied for third in the Lone Star Conference.
Caleb Jefferson has also been productive in the secondary with two interceptions and two pass breakups, while five different Greyhounds have recorded a sack this season.
Familiar Foe
Saturday's meeting will renew a series currently led by Sul Ross State, 14-12-1. Eastern has controlled the matchup in recent years, winning nine of the last 10 meetings. The Greyhounds' most recent trip to Alpine ended in a 51-12 victory in 2023, while Sul Ross earned a 36-17 home victory the following season.
The two programs last met on Nov. 1, 2025, when ENMU earned a 40-34 victory in Portales. The Hounds took a 13-10 advantage during the second quarter and held the lead the rest of the way.
Jarius Stewart rushed for 160 yards and two touchdowns while also throwing a touchdown pass, and
Demarion Finch added 92 yards and two scores. Current Greyhound
Jose Trevino was on the opposite sideline in that matchup, rushing for 93 yards and three touchdowns for Sul Ross.
Scouting Sul Ross State
The Lobos enter the weekend at 1-3 overall and 0-2 in Lone Star Conference play. Sul Ross picked up a 53-26 victory over Adams State but has dropped contests to Wayland Baptist, UT Permian Basin and Central Washington. The Lobos are averaging 25.5 points and 395.8 yards of offense per game, including 245.3 yards through the air and 150.5 on the ground.
The Sul Ross passing attack is highlighted by wide receiver Will Craven, who leads the Lobos with 358 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns. Quarterback Will Howell enters the matchup fourth in the conference with 232.3 passing yards per game.
Saturday's matchup also presents Eastern with an opportunity to snap its current six-game skid dating back to last season. Fittingly, the Greyhounds' most recent victory came against Sul Ross State in the 40-34 decision last November.
