PUEBLO, COLO. – The Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team began it's two-game road trip in Pueblo, Colorado tonight, taking on the Thunderwolves of CSU Pueblo. The Greyhounds entered the game with a 1-0-1 record, while the 'Wolves sat winless at (0-1-1).
The first half of the match was not without scoring opportunities, but a strong defensive showing for both sides. CSU Pueblo attacked early in the half off of a corner kick opportunitiy, but
Aja Gonzales kept the score even at zero with a series of saves. Arissa C'deBaca and
Raylene Carillo both had a shot on goal later in the half but were unable to get past goalkeeper Peppi Niemi. The two teams went into the half held scoreless.
The Thunderwolves would immediately settle in to halftime adjustments, scoring a goal just a minute and forty seconds into the second half and
Aja Gonzales allowing just her first non-penalty-kick goal of the season. The ENMU offense could not find an answer for the surging 'Wolves, being held without a shot until Pueblo would bring the lead to three with consecutive goals in the 64
th and 68
th minute.
Aja Gonzales had four saves and four Greyhounds had a shot on goal.
Despite a promising last minute scoring chance on corner kicks, the Greyhounds would fall 3-0 for their first loss of the season. Their record comes to 1-1-1, and 3-3 all time with CSU Pueblo. The Thunderwolves pick up their first win of the season and even ENMU at 1-1-1.
The Greyhounds will head to Alamosa, Colorado to take on Adams State on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 3 p.m. The Grizzlies are a strong 3-0-1 on the season, tying with West Texas A&M at home tonight at 0-0.
