Biography

Marcus Smith enters his second season with the Greyhound coaching staff after completing a stellar four-year career on the offensive line that saw him help pave the way for a then team-record 507 rushing yards in the 2006 senior game. Smith will continue his coaching duties by moving from fullbacks to feature backs in the Greyhounds’ new offense. Given his knowledge of blocking techniques he should be able to assist the feature backs find openings in opposing defenses.
Smith got off to a fast start at Eastern, earning the Jake Scott Fighting Heart Award in his freshman season. His performance enabled the Hounds to post a 4-2 home record that year. Eastern posted back-to-back winning seasons in Smith’s first two years, and he helped pave the way for Michael Benton to be the NCAA Division II’s top rushing quarterback in the 2005 and 2006 seasons. He concluded his playing career in 2006 as a team captain and earned back-to-back selections to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
Prior to coming to Eastern, he earned three letters in football at Hereford high school, earning a Second Team All-District selection as a senior.
Marcus is married to Sabra Smith, who works for State Farm Insurance. They both currently reside in Portales, N.M.
