Gaul enters his second season in 2020 as the assistant baseball coach at Eastern New Mexico University following coaching stints at Allen County Community College and Sterling College.
Gaul led a pitching staff for the Greyhounds in 2019 headlined by sophomore Ethan Coombes, who ranked sixth in the Lone Star Conference with 42 strikeouts. Coombes and company surrendered five or less runs in six games throughout a shortened 2019 season under the direction of Gaul.
During his time at Allen Community College, Gaul assisted with the pitching staff operations, fundraising, recruiting, player development, and the organizing of fall camps and multiple high school tournaments. Prior to his time at Allen, Gaul spent the 2016-2017 season with NAIA Sterling College, a top competitor in the KCAC conference. Gaul was the Head Assistant Coach and helped guide the Warriors to a 37-18 record. Along with guiding the pitching staff, Gaul assisted with the weights/conditioning programs, recruiting, travel arrangements, academic progress of student-athletes and the every day scheduling of practices. His staff produced a 5.64 ERA in his first year of being a collegiate coach, which ranked third in the KCAC, and featured the league's Freshman Pitcher of the Year and the nation's third-highest save producer for the season. Â
Gaul also gained experience in the coaching field in the summers of 2016 and 2017 as the head coach of the Kansas Cannons, a summer collegiate team in Augusta, Kansas that competes in the Kansas Collegiate League. His team finished in the top three of the final league standings in each of his two seasons as head coach. His 2016 Cannons went 3-0 in pool play at the prestigious NBC World Series before losing in the elimination round and featured two players that were selected in the Major League Baseball Draft.Â
Along with coaching collegiately, Gaul has spent time coaching high school showcase teams in Kansas City, during which time he coordinated pitching lessons and managed one of Mac N Seitz’ top teams. Most recently, he finished coaching Senior American Legion baseball in Missouri. During that time, Gaul was in charge of the pitching staff and game day operations. Gaul’s team won the Missouri State title and qualified for the American Legion Mid-South Regional tournament in Nebraska.
A native of Wichita, KS, Gaul competed for two Division II level programs. Gaul finished his career in 2016 at Henderson State University following a three-year career at Newman University. He earned a master’s degree in sports administration in 2017 from Henderson State University and graduated from Newman University with a bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in sports medicine.
