Larry Varnado Jr.

In 2020, Larry Varnado will enter his 14th season as a part of the Eastern New Mexico University coaching staff.  Known as “LV” by his colleagues and student-athletes alike, Varnado has been an integral part to the success of ENMU athletics, acting as the University’s strength and conditioning coach.

Working with all 14 sports, Varnado is a Greyhound himself, having played inside linebacker for one of Eastern’s most storied football teams from 1998-2001.  Varnado played on the ENMU squad that finished ninth in the NCAA Division II in total defense.

He received First Team All Lone Star Conference in 2001, and finished his career with 156 total tackles including 21 for a loss. Varnado received ENMU's highest honor for a male athlete following his senior campaign, with his selection as Greatest Greyhound.
 
He earned his bachelor’s degree in health and physical education in 2005 and received his master’s from Eastern in 2011, graduating with a degree in Health and Physical Education Sports Administration.

Larry is married to the former Brandi Arias and the couple has one child. They currently reside in Clovis, N.M.
