Biography
Career
Over three seasons at ENMU, Courtney Lawson has established herself as one of the Lone Star Conference's top all-around players. Over 88 matches played, she has registered 725 kills and 976 digs. She is a two-time Academic Greyhound Award-Winner, and was a CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 selection in 2015.
As a Junior in the 2015 Season
In her third season at Eastern, Lawson appeared in 112 sets while starting 27 matches. She played an incredibly integral role in the team’s success, the junior finished the season with 230 kills, 39 aces, 288 digs and 26 total blocks – and did everything her team needed her to do.
A fact which proved how valuable the talented outside hitter was, Lawson sits at atop in the ENMU record books for most double-doubles in one season (since at least 2001), finishing the 2015 campaign with seven total. Not only a key figure on the court, Lawson not only earned a place on the LSC All-Academic team, but was named to the COSIDA Academic All-Districe 6 Team.
As a Sophomore in the 2014 Season
In her second season, Lawson appeared in 115 sets and starting all 31 matches, and recorded 213 kills for a 1.85 kill per set ratio to go along with her 12 assists. Breaking the double digit kill mark seven times, she had her season high of 15 kills come against Texas A&M-Commerce (Oct. 4).
As a Freshman in the 2013 Season
Lawson was named to LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll in the fall and spring semesters of her first year at ENMU and earned Dean's List honors. She earned success on the court as well, with an All-Lone Star Conference Honorable Mention selection and was named to MSU Hampton Inn-Vitational All-Tournament Team. As a true freshman, she played and started all 28 matches, totaling 101 sets with 282 kills, 315 digs, 31 blocks, 28 service aces, 11 assists and a .112 attack percentage. For the season, she led team with 11 double-doubles... She registered a double double in her ENMU debut with 19 digs and 11 kills against Southwestern Oklahoma State (9/6). She had a season-high four service aces along with third double-double in first four matches of the season in a match against Northwestern Oklahoma State (9/7). She had 16 digs and 12 kills against conference-rival West Texas A&M (10/15) for first of four straight double-doubles. Lawson ended the season with six digs and five kills at WT (11/21) in LSC Tournament.
Before ENMU
Prior to her enrollment at ENMU, Lawson played four years at V. Sue Cleveland High School. A highly decorated player, she was a four time all-metro selection (2009-12), three time all-district team selection (2010-12), and was named to New Mexico 5A All-State Second Team in 2012. Lawson led V. Sue Cleveland to a New Mexico 5A State Championship in the 2012 season. In basketball, she played guard and was named to the 2011 and 2012 all-district teams and all-metro in 2012. She also ran the 800 meters and mile races on the track team and played first base for softball squad. Lawson garnered All-Academic honors all four years for basketball and volleyball.
Academic
Lawson is majoring in psychology at ENMU with a minor in communicative disorders.
