PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico University’s Esports head coach is Josef Garcia.
He will lead the launch of the program after serving as a coach for Portales High School.
Garcia is a 2020 graduate of ENMU and helped lead the Esports club team as a student where he served as president from 2017-2020. He was also recognized as the member of the year in 2016.
Some of his primary tasks while in the club included recruiting new members, organizing events, and interacting with other Esports teams.
He holds a degree in psychology with a minor in health education and made the dean’s list all four years at Eastern.
While coaching at the high school level, he introduced the sport to students and aided them in local competitions.
