Former Greyhound Edgar Weiser joins the football staff for the 2023 season.
He will oversee the running backs and special teams for Eastern New Mexico
The Las Cruces native played tight end and defensive end for ENMU from 1996-1999 and graduated with a bachelor's degree in physical education with a minor in history in 2000 from Eastern. The 1999 team won the Lone Star Conference South Division Championship.
He comes to Portales after serving as the special teams coordinator and tight ends coach at Idaho State (FCS) in 2022.
From 2014-2021 he served as an assistant coach at Mississippi College (DII) and worked with the offensive line (14-18), special teams (14-21), and wide receivers (19-21).
Weiser also brings valuable experience as he coached at University of the Cumberlands from 2006-2013 where he had offensive coordinator and special teams duties. The Patriots did not have a losing season during his tenure and he capped off his time at UC with the 2013 team going 13-1.
Other coaching stops for the former Hound include the college level (Southern Arkansas – 2001, Nebraska Omaha – 2002, and Southeast Missouri State – 2003) and high school (Las Cruces HS (NM) – 2000, Crockett HS (TX) – 2004, and Hendrickson HS (TX) – 2005).
