The Las Cruces, N.M. native comes to Portales after one year as an assistant coach at Clovis High School. During the 2022 campaign, he saw the Wildcats go 3-1 in district play.

McKee arrived to Curry County after a five-year playing career at the University of Texas El Paso (UTEP).

As a Miner, he played in 46 games, including every game as a junior and fifth-year senior. He played a vital role in growing the program's reputation culminating to an invitation to the 2021 New Mexico Bowl after securing 7 wins. The 2021 season saw UTEP earn more victories than the previous four seasons combined.

The newest coach played his prep football at Onate High School where he was recognized as the 2016 NMPreps.com Linebacker of the Year. He finished his career with 289 total tackles, including 167 during his senior season alone. Against in-city rivals, Centennial and Las Cruces, he totaled 20+ tackles in each contest.

He earned his bachelor's degree in communications from UTEP in 2021.
