Glenn Johnson '81, MS '83 joins ENMU Football as an Assistant Defensive Line Coach for the 2022 season, his third stint with Eastern New Mexico Football (second as a coach).
Johnson has been a life long educator and coach with over 25 years of experience as a football coach and teacher. Johnson rejoins his Alma Mater to assist with the defensive line for the 2022 season.
Prior to rejoining Eastern, Johnson was the Head Track & Field Coach at Portales High School, while also teaching Drivers Education. In 23 years with the Rams, Johnson also served as the Head Football Coach for Portales and taught physical education and health.
Before coaching at Portales High School, Johnson applied his coaching skills for Eastern New Mexico football as the defensive coordinator from 1993-1998. Along with being a coach for ENMU Football, Johnson also taught activities classes at the university.
Before joining Eastern, Johnson spent three years as a the Head Football Coach and Physical Education Teacher at Yuma High School in Yuma, Ariz., from 1989 to 1993. Before heading to Yuma, Johnson held the same position Olton, Texas at Olton High School, from 1987 to 1989.
Johnson received his first intercollegiate coaching experience at West Texas State University (Now West Texas A&M), working as a assistant football coach and teaching activities classes.
Prior to joining West Texas State, Johnson spent two season with the Greyhounds as a graduate assistant, while pursuing a masters degree in Physical Education. Johnson achieved a Bachelors degree in Physical Education from Eastern in 1981 and went on to complete his masters program in 1983.
