Mike Pomfret

Mike Pomfret is the newest assistant coach for Eastern New Mexico football. He joins the Greyhounds after one year as head coach at Yuba College.

In his last role, he helped the program break a four-year losing streak with a 55-21 win over Siskiyous. He coached four all-league honorees, including one all-region student-athlete. Pomfret helped the 49ers defense to finish first in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Pacific 7- League in takeaways and interceptions. The program was also one of the ten least penalized in all 68 CCCAA Members.

Prior to his time in Marysville, California, he served as an assistant coach at Allan Hancock. He helped the program win the Strawberry Bowl and earn the SOCAL Northern League Co-Championship.

Before working in Santa Maria, California, he spent one season with Feather River where he helped the team win the NORCAL American Division Championship while going undefeated in the regular season.

In his three seasons coaching at CCCAA institutions, he helped twelve student-athletes transfer to a four-year institution.

From 2019-2021, he served as a student assistant and graduate assistant at the University of Texas with the Longhorns winning back-to-back Alamo bowl games.

Pomfret served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Hood. During his six years of service as a cavalry scout, he earned two Iraqi campaign medals and spent three years leading soldiers as a non-commissioned officer.

He currently lives in Portales with his wife, Kim.
