AS A REDSHIRT JUNIOR
Served as the Greyhounds primary kicker and punter during the 2018 season ... Converted on 8-of-9 field goal attempts, hitting a season-long 52-yard attempt at Angelo State, ranking as the third-longest field goal in program history ... Made 29-of-30 point after touchdown (PATs) ... Recorded 52 punts for 2067 yards, averaging 39.8 yards per punt and pinning 17 inside the 20-yard line ... Tallied a season-long 59 yard punt against Colorado Mesa ... Was named to the All-Lone Star Conference Second Team as both a kicker and a punter.
AS A REDSHIRT SOPHOMORE (PALOMAR COLLEGE)
Played his redshirt sophomore season at Palomar College under Joe Early... Nailed 50-yard field goal in the game against Santa Monica... Played in the 2017 Beach Bowl Game.
AS A REDSHIRT FRESHMAN (WESTERN NEW MEXICO)
As a redshirt freshman in 2016, he earned Special Teams Player of the Year... Named a Second Team All-LSC Punter in 2016... Also selected to the Don Hansen All-Super Region Third Team at Punter... Selected to the Fred Mitchell Award watch list for best kicker in the country as a redshirt freshman... Averaged 41.2 yards per punt.
AS A FRESHMAN (WESTERN NEW MEXICO)
Redshirted the 2015 season for the Mustangs.
HIGH SCHOOL
Played under Head Coach Damon Baldwin at Ramona High School... Named the Palomar League Kicker of the Year in 2013... Was a All-League selection at cornerback in 2014... Also played shortstop for his high school baseball team.
PERSONAL
Son John and Rebecca Vargas... Majoring in University Studies... Enjoys golfing, bowling, and going to a San Diego Padres game back home in his free time... Plans to pursue a career coaching baseball and football at the collegiate level after receiving his bachelors degree.
