Albert Flinn

Albert Flinn took over as head rodeo coach at Eastern New Mexico University in 2008 and has continued to elevate the program to new heights as he now enters his 17th season as head coach.

Flinn has mentored 26 National Collegiate Rodeo Qualifiers during his time at Eastern New Mexico, six of which went on to claim individual National Championships in their respective events, and one of which claimed the Reserve All-Around Championship. The women's team has experienced exponential growth under Flinn's leadership, including back-to-back Southwest Region Team Championships in 2014 and 2015. 

7073The Roswell, N.M. native took over the ENMU Rodeo program after enjoying a 34-year career in the banking industry during which time he has been a lifelong supporter of rodeo following a successful rodeo career at Eastern New Mexico himself. Flinn was a member of the ENMU Rodeo program from 1965 to 1968, leading the Greyhounds to a National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Southwest Regional Championship in 1965 and participated in three NIRA Finals in 1965, 1966 and 1968. That 1968 team finished the season as the reserve NIRA Champions. 

His career in rodeo began in 1959 as a member of the New Mexico National High School Championship team, turning in a second place finish in the bull riding. Flinn also qualified for the short go in two events in 1960 at the National High School Rodeo Finals and was the American Junior Rodeo Association champion bareback and bull rider in 1961.

Prior to his graduation from ENMU, Flinn became the first NIRA regional secretary from the Southwest region and later spent three years as the general manager of the LX Rodeo Company, owned by Hugh Cooper of Santa Rosa, N.M. He has been an avid supporter of 4-H, high school and college rodeo, including serving a six-year term as an adult director for the Mew Mexico 4-H rodeo program and numerous years as a proud supporter of the ENMU Rodeo program. 

He earned his bachelor's degree in Ag Business in 1968 and Master's of Business Administration in 1970, both from Eastern New Mexico University. Albert and his wife, Jenny have one son, Cooper. Cooper has competed in rodeo since he was nine years old and earned his masters degree from the University of Tennessee-Martin. Cooper and his wife AJ have one son, Triston.Â
