Shaylah Dominguez is going into her second season as a graduate assistant coach for the Greyhounds in 2023-24.

The 2023 season showcased vast improvements for the softball program as the Greyhounds won its most games (26) since 2008 when ENMU totaled 28. The team advanced to the Lone Star Conference postseason tournament for the first time since 2002 and earned a postseason win for the first time since 2001. Four Hounds were named all-conference – Mikenzey Patterson (second team), Brook Leger (third team), Ashley Nickerson (third team), and Alondra Vasquez (third team). Patterson also earned second team NFCA all-region honors. Kianna Galindo, Taylor Harrison, Brook Leger, and Aylene Lucero were tabbed to the College Sports Communicators All-District team for their efforts in the classroom and on the field.

ENMU set several high statistical marks during Dominguez's initial season in Portales, including breaking the record for most walks (170) and games played (56). The team finished second in program history in fielding percentage (.963) and innings pitched (371.1). Other notable rankings for Eastern New Mexico single season school records include: doubles (3rd – 83), opponent batting average (3rd - .269), sacrifice hits (5th – 46), strikeouts (250), fewest errors (5th – 60), ERA (6th – 3.71), wins (6th – 26), and shutouts (6th – 5). In her first year, Dominguez worked primarily with the outfielders.


Dominguez came to ENMU after finishing her spending time as a assistant coach and outfield coach for the Desert Gators Softball 12u/16u travel team. With the Gators, Dominguez provided support and assistance to the head coach, organized the weekly team schedule, and organized drills during practice and training for all positions. 

Before head to the Gators coaching staff, Dominguez completed their collegiate career at Park University spending two seasons with the Buccaneers. While in Gilbert, Ariz., Dominguez competed in 30 games, recording 19 hits and 16 RBI's during the 2020 and 2021 season. Dominguez served as a team captain in both of those seasons and was also elected to the Student Athletic Council.

Dominguez started their softball career at Clarendon College, playing during the 2018 and 2019 season. 

While at Clarendon College, Dominguez earned an Associate of Science on Criminal Justice in 2019. Dominguez went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Park University in 2021.Currently, Dominguez is pursuing a master's degree in Physical Education with Concentration in Sports Administration.
