Katie Burnett is entering her fifth season as an assistant volleyball coach at Eastern New Mexico in 2023.
For the 2023 season, Burnett assisted the program to an 11-20 finish with Mikaela Garvin earning their third career LSC postseason recognition (LSC Second Team). Getsemani Carrasco thrived during the 2023 season, leading the conference in digs per set (5.53 d/s) finishing 8th in the nation. During the season, Garvin tied the single-match record for most kills in a single-match (29 kills; Wayland Baptist, 10/31) and Carrasco set the all-time mark with 41 digs against Midwestern State (9/16). Additionally, Carrasco, Kayla Ison, and Gracelyn Stubbs all received CSC Academic All-District Team recognition.
During the 2022 campaign, Burnett helped ENMU finish 15-13 overall with a 6-10 conference standing. Under the guidance of Burnett, several Greyhounds improved from the season prior with Mikaela Garvin and Gracelyn Stubbs both being named to the All-LSC Second Team. Stubbs finished the season with a .336 hitting percentage (9th best in a single season), while adding a team high 90 blocks along with 261 kills. Garvin paced the team with 284 kills and 3.35 points per set. Academically, Stubbs and Rylee Mapes both were named to the CSC Academic All-District Team.
Helped guide the Greyhounds back to the postseason in 2021 with a 7-19 overall record, and a 7-10 conference record after missing out on the 2020 season due to COVID-19 restrictions. Burnett oversaw the success of Mikaela Garvin, who finished the season as the LSC Freshman of the Year and landed on the LSC All-Freshman team. Garvin accumulated 2.22 k/s, and 0.65 b/s during the season. Burnett helped Jasmine Gannon earn LSC All-Conference Second Team honors, after leading the team with 2.93 k/s, 3.43 p/s, and 268 digs.
During the 2019 season, Burnett stepped in as interim head coach during Coach Poyer’s leave of absence. The Greyhounds made history after a 3-2 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville, breaking a fifteen year losing streak against the Javelinas.
Burnett comes to Portales after serving as a graduate assistant coach at Cameron University. During her tenure in Lawton, Oklahoma, Burnett coached a pair of All-LSC Honorable Mention selections Britnee Altic and Brandy Carr. Last season, Altic surpassed the 1,000 dig mark in a two year stretch while Carr finished third in the LSC with 134 blocks and 17th nationally with 1.14 blocks per set.
Prior to Cameron, Burnett wrapped up a phenomenal playing career for Colorado State-Pueblo in 2016. In her final season with the Wolves, Burnett received Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Academic First Team accolades as well as All-RMAC Honorable Mention after closing out her final season with 302 digs at 4.72 digs per set. Burnett is currently CSU-P's record holder for career digs with 1,614, digs in a three-set match with 30 set against Fort Lewis on Oct. 25, 2014 and has the second-most service aces in a single season with 37.
Burnett earned her Master's of Science in Behavioral Science in Psychology from Cameron University in 2019. She received her Bachelor's of Science in Psychology with a minor in Exercise Science from Colorado State-Pueblo in 2016.
