Casey Claflin joined the Greyhounds baseball coaching staff as an assistant coach in July 2024. Claflin works mainly with the pitching staff, along with recruiting future student-athletes for the program.
Claflin helped the Hounds to a solid 2025, posting a 27-23 overall standing with a program best 25-23 LSC record. The season began with a series win over Texas A&M-Kingsville, doing so for the first time in program history. Midway into the season, Eastern split a home series with #4 UT Tyler, taking both games of the doubleheader to shock the Patriots. Statistically, Claflin helped guide the Hounds to a handful of program records, including setting the single-season record for home runs (57), walks (272), slugging percentage (.523), and on-base percentage (.445). Both Luciano Terilli and Willie Ponce thrived in the 2025 season under Claflin's guidance, going on to earn all-region accolades from the ABCA, D2CCA, and NCBWA.
Before joining the Greyhounds staff, Claflin spent two years at Waldorf University (Forest City, Iowa) as an assistant baseball coach and an area coordinator with student life. During their time with the Warriors program, Claflin had a strong focus with the pitching staff while assisting in recruiting, strength and conditioning programming, and fundraising. While at Waldorf, several players earned all-conference honors, and helped the program reach its conference tournament championship game.
Prior to working at Waldorf University, Claflin had several different positions at Shawnee State University (Portsmouth, Ohio), beginning as a volunteer coach and elevating to associate head coach over the span of four years. Coaching at their alma mater, Claflin coaching in 2019 then later being named the head assistant after two seasons. They held responsibilities as a recruiting coordinator, pitching coach, and helped create the Shawnee State JV baseball program.
Claflin had their first working experience in baseball with the Akron RubberDucks (Cleveland Guardians AA), serving for the bullpen catcher and equipment personnel. In this role Claflin caught in in the bullpen to warm up pitchers and working closely with professional athletes, coaches, training and support staffs.
Claflin earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2018 from Shawnee State University. Claflin earned several academic honors as a member of the baseball team, catching for the Bears.
