Dana Gillespie

Dana Gillespie joined Eastern New Mexico football as assistant coach (WR’s) in January 2026. He comes to Portales after three years as the offensive coordinator for Lubbock Monterey High School.

In the Hub City, he took over as offensive coordinator in 2023. The previous team had just gone winless and scored just 14.8 points per game. In his first season with the program, they went 4-6 (2-4) and earned fifth in district while averaging 28.7 points per game.

By his second year, they advanced to the second round of the 5A state playoffs with the team going 7-5 (5-1) and winning the district title. The 2024 squad posted 42.1 points per outing. Last season, the Plainsmen went third in district with a 7-5 (4-2) nod and also finished the season in the second round of the state championships.

In 2022, he was the quarterbacks coach for Andrews High School. During that season, the Mustangs earned a 7-5 (2-2) record on their way to a second round appearance in the 4A state championships.

Gillespie served as an offensive assistant at Kansas Wesleyan in 2021 where he saw the program go 11-2 (9-1 KCAC) and made an appearance in the NAIA quarterfinals.

During the 2020 shortened COVID-season, he was the offensive coordinator for Bethany College (Kan.). Gillespie led the Swedes offense to a remarkable 1,400+ yards in total offense averaging 363 yards per game and 13 touchdowns through the first four contests. 

Gillespie is no stranger to the Lone Star Conference as he was the tight ends coach for Angelo State from 2018-19. In his two seasons, the Rams went 14-9.

Prior to joining the ASU staff, Gillespie served as the wide receivers coach at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Fla. He helped Southeastern to a 5-0 conference mark and a berth in the NAIA playoffs. Southeastern had the No. 1 scoring offense and the No. 3 total offense in the NAIA in 2017. While there, he coached under Jeff Lebby who is the son-in-law of coach Art Briles.

In 2016, Gillespie was as an offensive quality control coach at Texas State working with the running backs and tight ends.

Prior to his time at Texas State, Gillespie worked as an offensive quality control coach at West Texas A&M working with quarterbacks and wide receivers. He helped contribute to the Buffs marking their 11th straight winning season in 2015. 

Before the 2015 season, Gillespie spent time serving as an offensive assistant for the Amarillo Venom, a professional arena team.

Gillespie played high school football at Seminole (Texas) High and earned all-district honors his senior year.  He signed with McMurry under head coach Hal Mumme then transferred to Eastern New Mexico University where an injury ended his playing career. He then spent two years with the Greyhounds as a student assistant coach.

Gillespie holds a bachelor’s degree from Eastern New Mexico. He graduated from ENMU in 2014. He is married to his wife, Ivery Gillespie.
