Jose Montoya, a native of Los Lunas, came back to the Land of Enchantment as the Assistant Athletic Director – Marketing and Communications in April 2022.
 
At ENMU, he oversees sport information and promotion of Greyhound athletics. He also serves as the sport administrator for the cross country and track and field programs. In this role, he served as meet manager for the 2023 Lone Star Conference cross country championship and the 2025 Lone Star Conference outdoor track and field championship.

Montoya hires and trains student workers to assist with the 100+ events hosted each year by the University. Those responsibilities benefit all areas of game operations for Greyhound Athletics.

His primary sports at Eastern have varied during his time with the Hounds, but he has consistently worked with all athletic programs in various functions. He currently is the lead contact for football, rodeo, cross country, track and field, and men's basketball.
 
He was most recently at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he served as a brand communications assistant from 2021-2022. With the Badgers, he worked primarily with Forward 360, men’s basketball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, and lightweight rowing. 
 
Montoya got his start in athletics with a sport reporting internship at the Valencia County News Bulletin in Belen, N.M. after graduating from the School of Dreams Academy in Los Lunas, N.M. in 2015. While pursuing his undergraduate, he continued working in collegiate athletics through volunteering at the University of Kansas in various capacities.
 
At KU, he was actively involved with Kansas Athletics, KUJH-TV, Playmakers, Marching Jayhawks, Journalism Student Leadership Board, Club Golf, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity Inc., St. Lawrence Center, and Multicultural Greek Council.
 
To finish his studies in sport management, Montoya worked as a sport information assistant at Knox College (DIII) in Galesburg, Illinois from Aug. 2019 – Dec. 2019. With the Prairie Fire, he worked primarily with men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s tennis, and men’s and women’s soccer. He also oversaw the growth of all social media channels and assisted with the annual fall campaign raising $40,000 for the department.
 
He has held internships at Catholic News Service (DC) and Radio America (VA). Montoya was the program advisor for the journalism and communications track with The Fund for American Studies (DC) in 2019.
 
Montoya graduated with a master’s degree in educational leadership and policy analysis – higher education (intercollegiate athletics administration) in May 2022 from UW-Madison. He also holds two bachelor’s degrees in sport management and journalism from the University of Kansas.
 
In his spare time he enjoys golfing and helping at St. Helen's Catholic Church.
