Viveros Sets ENMU Single-Game Assist Mark in 3-1 Win at Dallas Baptist

Saturday, October 11, 2014

DALLAS, TEXAS – Junior midfielder Carlos Viveros (Katy, Texas/Morton Ranch HS) set a new single-game record for the Eastern New Mexico men's soccer team with three assists in their 3-1 victory over Dallas Baptist Saturday afternoon at Patriot Soccer Field. He surpassed the previous mark of two that had been accomplished 18 times including twice this season by sophomore midfielder Jose Hernandez (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque HS) and freshman forward Ignacio Dicun (Amarillo, Texas/Tascosa HS).

ENMU improves to 5-5-2 on the year and extend their unbeaten streak to five games while the Patriots drop to 3-7-1.

Sophomore forward Ryan McManus (St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland/Madras College) started the scoring late in the 12th minute with his third goal of the season. Getting credited with assists on the play were Hernandez and Viveros.

Only 88 seconds into the second half, freshman defensive back Gil Munoz (Albuquerque, N.M./Atrisco Heritage Academy) found the back of the net for the first time as he headed in a corner kick from Viveros.

Freshman midfielder Daniel Sanchez (Albuquerque, N.M./Atrisco Heritage Academy) nearly added to Eastern's goal total late in the 69th minute. His shot though hit off the post and bounced back into the field of play.

Munoz added his second goal of the game and third of the season in the middle of the 83rd minute. He headed in another corner kick, this one into the upper left corner, sent in by Viveros.

DBU scored their lone goal 53 seconds later when Landon Lacy beat freshman goalkeeper James Gutierrez (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva HS) to his right side.

With his assist on McManus' goal, Hernandez now has five for the season to tie for fifth on the school's season list. He is four shy of matching the record of nine set last season by former Greyhound Julian Roberts.

Senior midfielder Abayneh Crosby (Humble, Texas/Atascocita HS), sophomore midfielder John Jamison (Albuquerque, N.M./Sandia HS) and Viveros all took a team-high three shots. Gutierrez made five saves in improving to 5-3-2 on the year.

For the Patriots, David Balyeat took a game-high eight shots but put only two on goal. Chuck Schober made five stops and remains winless on the season at 0-4-1.

Eastern is back in action against West Texas A&M on Sunday, October 19 at 3 p.m. at ENMU Soccer Field.
