Non-Conference Doubleheader Saturday for Volleyball Zias

PORTALES, N.M. – With an off weekend from Lone Star Conference action, the Eastern New Mexico volleyball team will play a doubleheader Saturday in Odessa, Texas. The Zias will take on Dallas Baptist at 1 p.m. MT and Texas-Permian Basin at 3 p.m. MT as both matches will take place in the Falcon Dome.

Scouting Eastern New Mexico
Sophomore Lauren Frye leads ENMU with 260 kills and a 3.13 k/s while hitting .252. Adding 2.33 k/s is senior Lindsey Barron. Pacing the team with a .300 attack percentage is senior Agatha Gibbons while she (159), fellow classmate Bree Anna Lucero (114) and sophomore Courtney Lawson (165) all have triple-digit kills this year.
 
In the Zias 6-2 system, senior Kennedi Catano is putting up a team-high 5.34 a/s while fellow senior Karra Day is averaging 4.70 a/s.
 
Leading the squad in d/s (3.68) and service aces (30) is sophomore Lindsay Bost. Freshman Andrea Aguilar has a 2.98 d/s mark on the season but since taking over as the libero five matches ago is putting up 4.50 d/s.
 
Gibbons' 1.06 b/s and 88 total blocks are the most by a Zia this season. She has 17 of the team's 31 solo rejections as well. Contributing 79 blocks and 0.95 b/s is Lucero while Frye has added 55 rejections.
 
As a team, Eastern is hitting .178 with 11.8 k/s and 11.1 a/s. They recorded 111 service aces while hitting into 131 service errors. The Zias average 13.5 d/s and hold a 174-153.5 block advantage. Opponents are posting 11.5 k/s, 10.8 a/s and hitting .170.
 
Scouting Dallas Baptist
Dallas Baptist is coming off a three-set defeat at Lubbock Christian on Thursday. They have lost their last three matches after winning five of their previous six. Prior to Saturday's match, the Patriots will play West Texas A&M in Lubbock, Texas on Friday and face Texas-Permian Basin at 11 a.m. MT Saturday. They are 3-7 in games away from Dallas, Texas with a 1-1 mark in neutral site contests. DBU will be playing their fifth and sixth straight matches away on the road Saturday.
 
Tiara Gipson leads the Patriots in kills (269), k/s (3.64), attack percentage (.351) and blocks (67). Sidnee Jo Fitzpatrick (2.16), Brooke Manley (2.14) and Krystal Wunderlich (2.89) are all averaging over two kills a set. Both Carly Hess and Erika Papadeas have over 100 kills this season with 116 and 106, respectively. Setting up the attacks is Kaycie Bird with 739 assists and an 11.20 a/s mark.
 
Both Hannah Ballew and Manley are tied for the team lead with 23 service aces. Right behind them with 21 is Gipson while Tadam Mergener has added 12.
 
Defensively, Mergener has gotten 425 digs and averages 6.44 d/s. Manley is second with 222 digs and a 3.00 d/s mark. Hess is second on the team with 42 blocks and Fitzpatrick has contributed with 36. Adding at least 20 rejections is Bird (20), Papadeas (20) and Wunderlich (26).
 
DBU is averaging 13.2 k/s and 12.5 a/s while hitting .202. Both they and their opponents have 102 service aces on the year. The Patriots are getting 19.3 d/s which ranks third in the Heartland Conference. At the net, DBU has 128 blocks. Opponents are hitting .207 with 13.4 k/s and 12.6 a/s.
 
Scouting Texas-Permian Basin
Thursday night saw Texas-Permian Basin fall to Arkansas-Fort Smith 3-0 at home. They will enter Saturday on a two-match losing streak and have dropped three of their last four. Before playing Eastern New Mexico, the Falcons will take on Dallas Baptist at 11 a.m. MT on Saturday. At home this season, they are 4-6. Two notable wins this season for UTPB have been over Midwestern State on the road and Texas A&M-Kingsville at home.
 
Coming in with a team-high 235 kills and 3.22 k/s is Ryley Carman. She is also hitting .224, the second highest on the squad behind Morgann Davis' .298. Davis has added 187 kills and 2.49 k/s. Both Hannah Rebb and Annelise Sanchez have triple-digit kills with 132 and 105, respectively. Setter Ariana Gallardo has 664 assists and an 8.30 d/s average this year. She also leads the team with 21 service aces.
 
Taylor Harmon goes into the weekend with a team-high 4.41 d/s while Jordan McDonald adds 3.15 d/s. Leading the Falcons with 61 total blocks and 16 solo rejections is Davis. Rachel Dixon is second on the team with 34 blocks while both she and Carman have seven solo blocks each.
 
As a team, UTPB is hitting .190 with 11.9k/s and 11.0 a/s. They have recorded 87 service aces but given up 115 to opposing squads. The Falcons average 16.4 d/s and have totaled 145 blocks. Opponents are getting 12.8 k/s and 11.8 a/s with a .197 attack percentage. They have also rejection 152 of UTPB's attack attempts.
