Lindsey Barron and
Agatha Gibbons combined for 26 kills but the Eastern New Mexico volleyball team fell short of their upset bid of third seeded Angelo State 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-21, 25-20) Thursday afternoon at The Box on the campus of West Texas A&M. Gibbons finished with a team-high 14 kills, .481 attack percentage and match-best nine blocks while Barron added 12 kills and a .440 attack percentage.
The Zias end the 2014 season with a 13-18 overall record while the Rambelles improve to 20-7. The second set win was the first for Eastern since Nov. 12, 2004 against Abilene Christian while also taking a set from ASU for the first time since 2009.
ENMU scored the first two points of the match on a kill by Gibbons and an ASU attack error. The Rambelles responded with an 8-1 run to go ahead. Back-to-back kills by senior

Courtney Lawson to cut the deficit to 8-5.
A 5-1 burst from ASU sealed their lead for the rest of the set. Eastern was able to pull to within six four times with the last being at 24-18 after the second kill of the set from Barron.
Three attack errors by the Rambelles helped the Zias jump out to an 8-1 lead in set two. Gibbons had two kills and teamed up with junior
Talaitupu Faumui for a block as well.
ASU responded with an 11-3 run to take the lead. Sophomore
Lauren Frye came back with a kill to tie the match again but the Rambelles took three of the next four points.
Down 15-14, ENMU won four of the next five points which was capped off by a block by Frye and Gibbons to put them in the lead the rest of the set. ASU was able to cut the lead to one multiple times but Barron finished off the set with a kill thanks to a block error.
The Rambelles took the first point of the third set. A kill by Barron and combined block from Faumui and Gibbons put Eastern in the lead. The teams then traded points until ASU saw four straight go their way to take a 16-13 advantage.
Gibbons a kill to pull the Zias to within one at 17-16 but the Rambelles were able to maintain the lead the rest of the way to go up 2-1 in the match.
A kill from Lucero and ASU attack error put ENMU up 2-1 to start the fourth set. A 9-3 burst put ASU back in the lead. The Zias were able to cut the deficit to two twice with the last coming at 13-11 on a kill by Faumui.
Trailing by four, Barron and Lawson posted back-to-back kill to cut the ASU's lead to 19-17 and make them use their first timeout of the set. Gibbons had consecutive kills to pull the Zias within one but ASU ended the match on a 5-1 run.
Lawson recorded sixth double-double of the season and 16 in her career with 10 kills and 16 double-doubles while hitting .333. Lucero added eight kills and Frye finished with seven kills.
Senior
Karra Day was credited with a team-high 26 assists and fellow classmate
Kennedi Catano had 21 assists as well.
Frye finished with five blocks and Faumui added four. Lucero had one block to give her 100 for the season. She and Gibbons are the first Zia duo to have triple-digit blocks in a season since 2005.
The Rambelles' Abbie Lynn recorded a match-best 21 kills and hit .500 with only an attack error in 40 total attempts. Daeleigh Castilie added 12 kills and match-high .524 attack percentage while Zoey Hanrahan had 10 kills.
Both Brianna Sotello (10 kills, 11 digs) and Alex Johnson (53 assists, 10 digs) recorded double-doubles. The LSC Libero of the Year, Shelby Wilt, had a match-best 21 digs.
The Zias hit .259 in the match with 53 kills but ASU posted 68 kills and a .317 attack percentage. ENMU did finish with a 10-7 block advantage.
