DENTON, TEXAS — Despite Courtney Lawson recording her record setting fifth double-double of the season, the Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team fell to Texas Woman's University Saturday, losing 3-1 (14-25, 25-22, 16-25, 21-25).
The Greyhounds (10-13, 3-8 Lone Star Conference) fell behind early in the first set, ultimately losing by 11 points, before coming back to take the second set 25-22. The third set followed the first with TWU (18-5, 8-3 LSC) taking the set by double-digits.
While ENMU played another close match in the fourth set, it was too little-too late, falling 25-21 and losing the match 3-1. This is the second meeting between the two teams this season, with the Pioneers taking both matches. TWU is currently sitting in third place in conference while ENMU is in seventh.
Lawson finished the day tied for a team-high 13 kills with Lauren Frye. Lawson's 10 digs gave her another double-double on the season, setting the record for most double-doubles in a single season since 2001 and giving her six career double-doubles.
Alexis Aguirre also recorded a double-double, her fourth of the season, with 43 assists and 10 digs. Her four double-doubles on the season place her right behind Lawson for most double-doubles in a season.
Lindsay Bost finished with 11 digs and two service aces. Andrea Aguilar and Talaitupu Faumui also had over 10 digs, finishing with 11 each.
The Greyhounds will play one last road game before they return home, taking on Midwestern State University Oct. 27, at 5:00 p.m. (MDT). The Mustangs are 5-19 on the season and 0-10 in the LSC.
