PORTALES, N.M. — The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team showed up against St. Mary's University(TX) Thursday and showed up big, winning 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-18) and recording their fifth shutout of the season.
The Greyhounds (12-13, 4-8 Lone Star Conference) only trailed the Rattlers (5-18) twice, once in the opening set and then in the second set, both by scores of 1-2. ENMU dominated both sides of the net all night, recording only nine errors and hitting a season high .429 as a team.
Lauren Frye, recently of the 1,000 kill club at ENMU, continued to show off her offensive dominance, recording 15 kills and hitting .542. Stand out Courtney Lawson had 12 kills on only 16 attacks, giving her a season high .750 hitting percentage. She also chipped in six digs.
Finally, Brooklyn Biel had another outstanding performance, recording 10 kills and only one error for a .529 hitting percentage. Head coach Sia Poyer was very happy with the team's performance.
Poyer said, "Numbers wise, I'm impressed with everybody. It's nice to be hitting that [.429] and even more impressive to be under 10 errors for the match."
ENMU will now get set to host two conference games. The first will be against Tarleton State University Friday at 7:00 p.m. followed by an afternoon match on Saturday against Angelo State University at 2:00 p.m. The two teams are No. 1 and 2 in the LSC, respectively.
