PORTALES, N.M. — After a heartbreaking loss to Lone Star Conference No. 1 Tarleton State University the previous day, the Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team could never gain the advantage against the No. 2 team in the LSC Angelo State University Saturday, dropping the match in 3 sets 25-27, 16-25 and 18-25.
Head coach Sia Poyer said, "I know my girls, and after a loss they just let it go, but we made a big deal about playing number one and two in the conference this weekend and knew it was going to be tough. As bad as we played, we still have two more opportunities to move up in the standings, so there is still some volleyball to be played."
Lauren Frye was the only Greyhound (12-15, 4-10 LSC) in double-digits offensively, scoring 13 kills while hitting .129. Laura Landreth and Courtney Lawson chipped in six kills each.
Frye also had a good outing defensively, recording two solo blocks and one block assist. Brooklyn Biel added one solo block as well, for a team total of six blocks. ASU (24-5, 10-2 LSC) ended the match with 10 team blocks.
The first set saw both teams come out fired up, with the Greyhounds taking an early lead that they maintained half way through the set. Finally tying the set at 20 apiece, the game went back and forth until two errors and a service ace put the Rambelles up on top for good.
ENMU never got back into the match after the first set, trailing by as much as 10 points in the second set. The third and final set was much of the same.
The Greyhounds will take to the road for the remainder of their season, heading to Canyon, Texas, Nov. 3 a matchup with West Texas A&M University at 5:00 p.m. Following the WT match, ENMU will have a three game stint in Wichita, Kan., before playing their final regular season match with Texas A&M-Kingsville.
