Durango, Colo. — Despite outscoring New Mexico Highlands University 52-43 in the second half, the Eastern New Mexico University men's basketball team couldn't overcome a 17 point first half deficit, ultimately losing 85-77 Friday night.
Ladarius Stewart led the Greyhounds (0-1) with 19 points, while returner Lawrence Domingo and freshman Brady Patterson added 13 and 12, respectively. Stewart and Domingo each recorded eight rebounds as well. Arcaim Lallemand led the team with nine boards on the night.
Domingo not only tied his career-high in rebounds, but went 6-for-11 from the field. Stewart also had an efficient night scoring, hitting three 3-pointers in the contest, hitting 50 percent of his long shots.
The first half saw ENMU shoot 25 percent from the field, going 9-for-36 from the floor. Meanwhile the Cowboys (1-0) came out shooting above 50 percent, creating the first half difference.
Barring shooting percentage, the Hounds out played Highlands in every stat category, outrebounding their opponents 53-39 and winning the turnover battle 17-18. ENMU also recorded 15 assists compared to Highlands 11.
The Greyhounds will now turn their attention to the host team of the Skyhawks Regional Classic, Ft. Lewis University. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (MT) Saturday, Nov. 14.
