DURANGO, COLO. — The Eastern New Mexico University men's basketball team couldn't manage to overcome an 11 point first half deficit Saturday, falling to Ft. Lewis University 77-63.
John Gilliam led the Greyhounds (0-2) on offense with 14 points, while Stephon Edwards and Brady Patterson added 11 and 10 each. Edwards also led the on the glass, grabbing eight boards while Lawrence Domingo had another impressive night, grabbing seven of his own.
While neither team was incredibly impressive from the charity stripe, Patterson and Gilliam went 5-for6 and 5-for-7, respectively. As a team the Greyhounds went 20-34 while the Skyhawks were 15-25.
Much like ENMU's prior game against New Mexico Highlands University Friday, the Greyhounds outrebounded the Skyhawks (2-0), grabbing 41 boards to their 37. Turnovers were also close, with ENMU recording 16 while Ft. Lewis had 15.
The Hounds had a tough shooting night, with on 35 percent of their shots finding the bottom of the net. Ft. Lewis managed to come out of half and shoot an even 50 percent, going 11-22 in the half and shooting 46percent on the night.
ENMU will return home before heading back to Colorado for the Comfort Inn Classic Nov. 20-21, in Gunnison. The Hounds will tipoff against Western State Colorado University before taking on Colorado Mesa University the following day.
