DURANGO, COLO. —
Miranda Moore paced the Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team with a 16-point, five-rebound, four-steal, and three assist effort against Fort Lewis College. Her performance which also included a blocked shot, nearly led the Greyhounds upset the host team of the Skyhawks Regional Challenge, but FLC rallied for a 67-64 win on Saturday afternoon in Whalen Gymnasium.
Johna McClelland scored with 4:47 left in the game to give Eastern a 56-51 lead, but the Skyhawks exploded on a 12-2 run spanning 2:48 of play to seize a 63-58 lead. The surge consisted of Astrea Reed and Mary Rambo connecting on six straight free throws, before Kylie Santos hit a pair of three-point buckets. Reed's free throws with 3:29 remaining provided the final lead change of the game to stake Fort Lewis to a 57-56 advantage. Eastern managed to close within two points on
Mikaehla Connor's layup after an offensive rebound and put back with 18 seconds left. After Santos hit one of her two free-throw attempts with 13 seconds left, ENMU was unable to connect with a game-tying three-point shot.
The Greyhounds took the initial lead on an
Eliza Martinez layup 1:10 into play and the momentum swung back and forth throughout the contest, as displayed by 11 lead changes. Eastern held a 39.4-31.6 percent edge in shooting percentage, but Fort Lewis enjoyed a 46-42 lead in rebounding. The Hounds pushed the tempo of the game when possible and held an 11-2 lead in fast break points.
McClelland finished with 10 points and seven rebounds for ENMU, while
Jordyn Cooper chipped in nine points.
Sarah Stinnett contributed eight points and dished out three assists, while
Briana White added seven points. Santos led FLC with 17 points, four boards, and three assists.
Next weekend, the Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball will compete in the Lubbock Christian Tournament. The Hounds first game will be against 15
th-ranked Lubbock Christian, on Friday at 6:30 p.m. MT.
