CANYON, TEXAS — Despite outscoring Emporia State University in the second half, the Eastern New Mexico State University men's basketball team couldn't overcome a 14 first half deficit and would ultimately fall 81-72.
For the fourth straight game John Gilliam led the Greyhounds (1-4) on offense with 26 points on an efficient 7-15 shooting. Gilliam's hot streak has seen him shoot 45 percent on the season and he is averaging 20 points a contest.
Stephon Edwards scored 16 points on the night, tying a career high. Edwards also led the team in rebounds with 12, giving him his first career double-double for the Hounds. Javandon Staves and Lawrence Domingo chipped in with nine and eight points, respectively.
The Hounds had a decent night shooting, going 24-59 for 40 percent in the contest. Emporia State (2-2) was slightly better, hitting 45 percent of their field goals. The Greyhounds outrebounded their opponents as well, recording 37 boards to Emporia's 36. Both teams had 18 turnovers.
ENMU will look to take on Nova Southeastern University tomorrow during the second round of games at the Pak-A-Sak West Texas Thanksgiving Tournament. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. (MT).
